Dr. Jess Miller
Plato+ Educator
Jess has been an integral part of higher education, community mental health, and other community-based organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1989 as a program director, counselor, instructor, case manager and job coach for people with a range of abilities.
As director of a Workability III program, Jess offered key services through this interagency cooperative opportunity with the Department of Rehabilitation.
She engaged with students to provide a smooth transition from college to career, supporting them to become competitively employed. With effective employment preparation and job placement services, students obtained a position, adjusted to an employment setting, and maintained stability, often inspiring new expectation for a full life ahead.
Jess advised and coached college students with visible and invisible disabilities. By reinforcing their individual stories and potential, they identified new strategies and developed stamina that could propel them toward a successful and exciting college experience.
Most recently Jess has been an instructor in community college settings and a teacher serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Dr Miller’s dissertation research focused on the challenges of students with non-apparent disabilities in a college setting. She is a Registered Drama Therapist and often applies interactive approaches in her work.
